Margaret Bridges (mbridges@berkeley.edu) Margaret is a Principal Research Scientist and directs the Child Development Projects group at Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE), a research consortium at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include the effects of preschool on low-income and Latino children—particularly effects on their social and emotional development, as they interact with family characteristics. She has examined these preschool effects on children both through quantitative analyses using large, national data sets and through ethnographic work with Latino mothers and their children. Currently, she is managing a project to develop two parallel measures that are culturally relevant to Latino children: one captures adult socialization goals and practices, and the other assesses children’s social-emotional outcomes. Dr. Bridges completed her doctoral training in developmental psychology at the University of Virginia, and continued her postdoctoral training at University of California, San Francisco examining family and peer effects on children’s social-emotional and academic outcomes.
